Welcome to THE CARBONATION CALIBRATOR Website

THE CARBONATION CALIBRATOR is a device designed to be used by the homebrewer who bottle conditions their homebrew, that is, carbonates their homebrew after fermentation with either corn sugar(dextrose) or unfermented wort, also called gyle or speise.
To spend days and weeks and months on a batch of bottle conditioned home brewed beer and then to ruin it with over carbonation was a frustration to me for years. With THE CARBONATION CALIBRATOR I have been able to achieve more accurate levels of carbonation for various styles of beer.
THE CARBONATION CALIBRATOR is a simple device. It is basically a 12 ounce glass bottle with a PSI gauge fitted through a metal lid with an adhesive thermometer affixed to the outside of the bottle which lets you know how much carbonation(co2) is already present in your fermented beer prior to bottling.

The steps to using THE CARBONATION CALIBRATOR are:

1. Ferment your homebrew completely.
2. Before bottling, fill THE CARBONATION CALIBRATOR with your newly fermented beer the way you would normally fill up your bottles and shake it up for 10-15 seconds.
3. Determine the temperature of your homebrew according to the adhesive thermometer and the pressure according to the PSI gauge.
4. Determine the amount of co2 present in your homebrew before bottling by using the temperature/PSI chart included with THE CARBONATION CALIBRATOR. Let's say you determine you have 1.4 volumes of co2 present in your homebrew prior to bottling.
5. Next you determine the amount of extra co2 you need to achieve your desired co2 level. Let's say your want a final co2 level in your bottled beer to be 2.5 volumes and your homebrew has 1.4 volumes of co2 present prior to bottling. You then subtract 1.4 from 2.5 and determine you need an extra 1.1 volumes of c02 to achieve 2.5 volumes.
6. You then consult the eight page pamphlet included with THE CARBONATION CALIBRATOR to calculate the amount of dextrose or gyle you need to add to achieve your desired final co2 level in your homebrew.
7. Finally, you add the amount of dextrose or gyle to your homebrew and bottle.
